The Birmingham family and friends of Rosemary's Mom, Emily Day, bid Nani an appropriate Irish farewell at Brannon's Irish Pub tonight. A Hennessey toast, some Jameson on the table, family photos around the room, Irish music playing and her family and friends sharing happy remembrances, made it a special night for all of us.
Ryan flew in from New York, Megan and Ricky breezed in from Jackson MS, and Erin made it back from a business trip in Virginia in time for the big event. Shane got there despite a bad back. The Kew Family came despite Trey's 12 birthday, and the Joyces were there to celebrate between their retirement trips.
We all knew that Nani was there with us for the dinner in her honor, since our memories of her were so fresh, so vivid, and so poignant. Nani was described as unconventional, outspoken, direct, a firey redhead, and a lady who loved her family. She shared her time with Erin, Ryan and Megan while living with us in Florida and Alabama for many years, and tonight demonstrated what an impression she made on each of them as they grew up.
The Irish know how to bid their farewells, and Nani would have been pleased with her dinner tonight.
She would have loved it. Thanks Dad!
